In recent years the numbers of women choosing to conceal carry have risen greatly. With the rise in women carrying, there has also been a larger demand for carrying equipment and gear. Jay’s Sporting Goods offers an array of new options for women including traditional holster options.
Jay’s carries a new line of gear for both men and women from 511 Tactical. The women’s holster shirt comes in black and white and offers a great option for conceal carry. Personally, I have tried shoulder holsters, in the pants holsters, regular holsters, thigh holsters, and purse holsters. Until this shirt, I did not feel confident carrying because of the bulkiness of the gear. My favorite carry equipment has to be my purse especially during the summer months when shorts and t-shirts are the standard wardrobe; however, the holster shirt offers me another option to carry comfortably and inconspicuously in the heat of summer with a light shirt over the top.
My body frame is generally a small/medium shirt. Because of the spandex-like fit, I chose a medium in the holster shirt as I’m not a fan of super tight clothing. The shirt does fit quite snug; however, it is comfortable. The shirt material also contains wicking technology to wick moisture away from your skin. From a person who really despises tight fitting clothing, the holster shirt was pretty comfortable. Another aspect I liked about the shirt is that it is long enough to pull the shirt down over the butt.
The shirt offers both a right handed and a left handed holster built into the shirt. The holster is large enough to carry a 9mm (and probably larger) and securely closes with two heavy duty velcro closures. The gun does not shift around while you are moving either. Having never wore my gun without a “traditional” holster, it took me a while to feel comfortable carrying right next to my ribs. But, that also comes with knowing your gun and taking all safety precautions always.
The Range Test:
Ultimately, the goal of conceal carry is to have quick access to your weapon in the event of an emergency. With choosing to wear a buttoned up shirt over my sleeveless holster, the accessibility to draw readily was very fast. I did not have my shirt buttoned to the top and left open the top two buttons. It was literally reach in, draw, safety off, and ready to fire. Overall, this holster was the the quickest I’ve drawn compared to the other equipment I’ve tried.
Overall Product Review:
Honestly, this holster option is my favorite of all of the other holsters I have and have used. I would recommend buying a size bigger than you normally wear as the gear is quite fitted and forms to your body. The shirt is very comfortable and looks great under any kind of blouse. Even on my small frame with a button-up shirt, I was able to conceal my weapon. With the low rise fit of women’s jeans, traditional holsters always pulled my pants down even with a belt. (Option B: get a smaller gun…) With a price tag around $70, this will be the last holster gear you have to purchase, and the cost is inline with many of the major holster manufacturers.
